Creating a website on an Open Source platform capable of supporting the Olympics had its own share of challenges, especially when it came to dealing with “peak performance”. Yet, the designers of the website were able to overcome the difficulties. One distinguishing characteristic of the London 2012 Olympics website is that the primary Open Source software platform (LAMP) has been extensively leveraged, and is able to serve with great performance and scalability.
